    Bowling was a wonderful way to start off second term for the VCAL students.  This term, they will focus on healthy eating, healthy body, healthy choices.  They will be participating in many activities this term including golf, absailing, rock climbing, hip hop dancing, yoga and tai kwondo.  It’s going to be a very full and exciting term and everyone is looking forward to getting active and having some fun.  Personal Development never looked so good

    • ]]>     sports-bbqWith holidays fast approaching, it was time to celebrate the achievements of the first term.  The VCAL students worked together to plan and organise a sports day which included a BBQ lunch.  The BBQ raised much needed funds for the VCAL camp that will take place later on in the year. 

    It was a wonderful way to assess the students in the Personal Development Strand of the VCAL certificate.  Everyone is looking forward to an even better 2nd term.

    Some of the students also participated in a contemporary dance workshop with a member of the Chunky Move Dance Company.

    • ]]>     syn-3As part of the Personal Development and Communications Strand, the VCAL students take turns to broadcast the Youth Radio at SYN on a Friday.   This helps build confidence and self esteem as well as being a lot of fun.

    Tune into 90.7 FM from midday to 1.00pm every Friday during term 1.

    (Syn-FM stands for Student Youth Network.)

    The driver is blindfolded while the passanger gives instructions to navigate their way through an obstacle course.

    During the last week of term the participants of the Noisy Girls program for 2008 put on a performance for family and friends at Northcote Uniting Church.

    The ten week program saw the girls: write their own songs which explored relevant issues to each of them; put music to their words; recorded a CD at Decibels Recording studio and then the program culminated in the girls performing their own tracks, as well as others at the performace.

    The church was packed for the evening and the girls began the night by singing as a group as they made their way down to the stage from the back of the room. Following this, each of the girls did an individual performance with many of the songs leaving members of the audience moved by not only their phenomenal voices, but also their courage to continue on even when nerves started working against them.

    Congratulations to all of the participants and also Kelly Auty, Jess Hannah and Sarah Van den Berg who facilitated and supported the girls in the program.

    The Banyule Nillumbik Local Learning and Employment Network (BNLLEN) has created a booklet for students of the Victorian Certificate of Applied Learning (VCAL). The booklet is packed full of information relating to studying outside of school and in the community.

    You can download the PDF file directly here, or browse the LLEN website. Plenty of useful resources over there.

    • ]]>     Josh Gibbins and Deb Vallely with their Victorian ACE awardsOnce again, PRACE featured strongly at the statewide ACFE annual awards.

    Huge congratulations to Josh Gibbins from the VCAL program (Victorian Certificate of Applied Learning) who received the award for best student, and Deb Vallely who received the award for best tutor, in November 2007.

    (In 2004, we were awarded the Best Provider in Victoria.)
