Angela is over seventy.

Her family has always treated her as the stupid one. She’s been coming to PRACE classes for five years – and finally is making some progress. Angela has never had any visual word recognition before. Her English speaking skills are very basic – she will speak Italian even though nobody understands. We suspect some level of intellectual disability.

However, this year, there is a real sense of breakthrough. Angela is now reading some basic words, making sense of written text, and growing her abilities at a steady pace. She has also begun to use the computers – Protea textware and two PageTurners books on the screen, with audio ‘read-along’.
