You can add functions to your web site using freely available "scripts" - take a look at hotscripts.com for example

You may need to get a basic understanding eg of PHP - the easiest coding language.

Some of these scripts won't be free .. but you'll find descriptions of each one's license.

SourceForge also has a huge range of software - and a large 'education' section.
