A Better Understanding of the Barriers to Employment for the CALD Community

Posted November 2, 2018

During our EAL teachers’ meeting yesterday, Reconnect placement student Lizzie Harding facilitated a thought-provoking discussion.  Lizzie, who is completing her Master of Social Work degree at RMIT, reflected upon the research she has carried out during her time at PRACE. The focus of the session aimed at better understanding the barriers and challenges facing newly arrived immigrants and the broader CALD community when seeking employment in the Australian workplace.

This session provided our EAL teachers with the welcome opportunity to discuss and debate this multifaceted issue and consider the various ways that we can actively support our students in preparing for the Australian workforce or in strategically navigating prospective study pathways.

It has been invaluable to have Lizzie, a highly skilled postgraduate student, explore this critical topic during her placement at PRACE. Her contribution has provided us with an important foundation for future research and practice.

We wish Lizzie all the best with the remainder of her placement and the completion of her Master of Social Work.
