Karinya travelled halfway around the world to study at Prace. Well, perhaps not just to study at Prace, but that has been one of the benefits of her travel.
Karinya comes from the Democratic Republic of Congo and her first language is Swahili, but she knew she would need to build her fluency in English to find employment here, so she joined the English as an Additional Language class at Prace.
“I really enjoyed being part of the Prace community because everyone was very friendly and helpful. I was doing the course full-time, with Mondays to Wednesdays in class and Thursdays online.
“I found the face-to-face classes easier, partly because there weren’t the distractions and noise that come from having small children around while you are studying!”
“I would still like to be studying, but once my English was stronger I was able to get a position in housekeeping at a hotel, so now I don’t have as much time to take classes. This was a great outcome though!”
Karinya’s teacher Nilanthi said she did really well in class. “Too well! It meant she got a job, which took her away from us” said Nilanthi with a smile. “We’ve all loved watching her grow.”
