PRACE Stories: Meet Kani

Posted October 26, 2020

Today we’d like to introduce you to PRACE graduate and volunteer, Kani!

Kani completed the Introduction to Bookkeeping and MYOB course at PRACE in 2019. During her studies she was referred to our Career Planning and Pathway Program where she gained practical skills and career mentoring.

“I found the Cover Letter Workshop very useful because I had a lot of doubt about how to start and finish a cover letter. I also learnt to tailor cover letters to the criteria in the job ad every time I applied” explains Kani.

During her time in the Career Planning and Pathway Program, Kani volunteered as an administrative assistant at PRACE – adding new skills to her resume. She has since found employment with a not-for-profit organisation working in their Digital Technology Department.

Kani came to Australia from Sri Lanka with her husband and children in 2010. On arrival in Melbourne, she spent the first four years looking after her young children.

In 2015, she completed her Certificate IV in English as an Additional Language followed by a Certificate in Laboratory Techniques and a Certificate III in Business Administration. She completed a number of student placements and volunteered in organisations aligned with her employment goals.

We are proud of Kani’s determination and commitment to her learning journey. We wish her all the best in her new role!

The Career Planning and Pathway Program is funded by a Melbourne Airport Community Grant.
