Celebrating Citizenship! 🇦🇺

Posted May 22, 2025

Last year, students from our Living and Working in Australia course went on an excursion to Parliament House Victoria. The day was a valuable chance to learn about Australian history and government — key topics for the citizenship test — while also practising English and building confidence navigating public transport.

Among the students in that class were Susan and Emma, who we’re thrilled to share have now become Australian Citizens!

Susan’s Story: Finding Confidence and Community

Susan has been part of the Prace community for many years. She joined the Living and Working in Australia course to improve her English and prepare for the citizenship test. She says she couldn’t have done it without the help of the course and her teachers.

Although she only started learning English recently, Susan has already made great progress in reading, writing, and speaking. She’s made many new friends in class and always encourages others to enrol. In fact, several of her friends are now taking English, computer, and driving classes at Prace.

Susan says she loves coming to class and often tells people, “I love Prace. I love the teachers. I always tell my friends to come.”

Emma’s Story: “Australia has given me a second life”

Emma, has been studying English at Prace for two years and is now in Level 3. She enrolled in the Living and Working in Australia course to help prepare for her citizenship test — and is now proud to call herself an Australian Citizen.

Emma describes her classes as positive and fun, and says they always begin by singing the national anthem and learning about Australian history. She shared how grateful she is for her teachers, Zoe and Alexis, saying they are very kind and have taught her a lot.

Before coming to Prace, Emma tried other English schools but found the classes too big and the teachers too busy. At Prace, she found a different experience — smaller classes and more personal support. A friend recommended the school to her, and she now describes it as “a beautiful and kind school.”

Emma is also working in aged care, providing home care and support in nursing homes. She says working hard is part of who she is and that “Australia has given me a second life. Everything is good.”

We are so proud of Susan and Emma for their achievements and for how far they’ve come. Their stories remind us that with the right support, a little courage, and a kind community, anything is possible.
