A volunteer is an important and valued member of our community. Volunteers play a vital role in creating a welcoming, supportive and inclusive environment for our students to learn in. They generously give their time, expertise and experience to assist students both in the classroom and socially, supporting students to enhance their lives through education.
We offer a range of classroom based opportunities where you will work closely with teachers to help meet the individual needs of our adult learners. Volunteer roles include:
Classroom Assistant – English as an Additional Language (EAL)
Under the direction of our teaching team, you will assist students from diverse cultural and religious backgrounds in the four language skills – reading, writing, listening and spelling.
Classroom Assistant – Computer classes
Help provide a safe and encouraging environment for adults who are learning the basics of computers and digital devices. You will follow teacher instructions and share your computer knowledge as you work to build students skills and confidence.
Classroom Assistant – Spelling, Reading and Writing (evening class)
Work in a small and supportive class for people who want to improve their spelling, reading and writing skills for everyday transactions or for work or further study.
Classroom Assistant – Inclusion programs
Volunteer in our vibrant inclusion program that is designed for people with mild intellectual or learning difficulties. You will support students as they develop life skills through a range of real life activities and experiences including excursions and outdoor activities.
Volunteers are encouraged to undertake ongoing professional development. All of our volunteers are required to attend the Introduction to Working with Diverse Communities course facilitated by Prace.
Available positions are advertised on Seek and Go Volunteer. You will need to submit an application online and shortlisted applicants will be contacted to arrange an informal phone interview. The next step is to meet in person with our Volunteer Coordinator at our main office in Reservoir.
To ensure we can continue to provide a safe learning environment for everyone, successful applicants must be willing to undergo a Police Check and a Working With Children check.
