The teacher regularly incorporates the yellow Level 1 books into her EAL (English as an Additional Language) classes and has found them incredibly effective. The variety of themes resonates with her students, making learning more relatable and enjoyable. For example, one of her male Chinese students, who loves fishing, particularly connects with the book Fresh Fish. Similarly, her female Afghani and Iranian students, whose families enjoy camping, found The Weekend to be both engaging and meaningful.
The teacher emphasised that the PageTurners series offers titles that appeal to a wide range of interests, catering to various hobbies and experiences. A new favourite from Series 10 is The Community Garden. This story centres around Asha, a woman who finds herself alone in a new city. When she discovers a community garden, she overcomes her initial hesitation and connects with people from diverse backgrounds. Gardening and cooking together brings Asha joy, and she soon invites another lonely woman to join, sharing the sense of community she has found.
Even when filling in for another teacher at a higher level, she enjoys exploring the higher-level stories with her students just as much as they do.
These engaging books are available in both print and ebook formats, giving our students the flexibility to choose how they read. By using the ebooks on iPads during class, they not only enjoy the stories but also strengthen their digital literacy skills, which is an essential part of modern learning.
We’re thrilled to hear such positive feedback and can’t wait to see the continued success and revitalisation of the PageTurners series!
