The end of Term 3 was a delightful occasion for the Mernda English Conversation Class, as students, staff, and community members gathered for a special morning tea. This festive event brought together not only our class but also the Community Woodwork Group and Mernda Neighbourhood House staff, creating a lively and joyful atmosphere.
Everyone brought some scrumptious food to share, from Chinese seafood noodles to quinoa salad, pizza, fruit snacks, cakes and other sweets. We shared ideas about food preferences and cultural practices when eating.
We enjoyed one another’s company with an authentic opportunity to speak in English to a variety of people.
The event was capped off by participants from the various cultural sub-groups banding together to sing a few lines to a song in their language. Everyone else was asked to join in by tapping or clapping to the tune. Afterwards, students explained the meaning of their songs in English, further enriching the experience and fostering understanding between different cultures.
The conversation was very engaging. Thank you to everyone who made this morning tea such a memorable and enjoyable event!
