Learning Resources for Cancer Council Victoria

Learning materials with Cancer Council Victoria

Did you know that over half of our eligible community members are missing out on lifesaving bowel cancer screening tests? Cancer Council Victoria has identified that only 40.3% of people aged between 50 and 74 in the Whittlesea region took part in the National Bowel Cancer Screening Program in 2018–2019. Which is why we partnered with them to create engaging teaching and learning resources – providing vital health information to English language students.

The resulting workbook helps people with low English language skills improve their understanding of bowel cancer and using the bowel testing kit. And, it is specifically designed for English as an Additional Language (EAL) students and is easily integrated into the Certificates I and II in EAL (Access) courses.

Prace has been hard at work with Cancer Council Victoria to update the workbook and add new online activities! These interactive resources are free and available online at Cancer Council Victoria!

Last week, the students in our level II English class completed the online activity for ‘Understanding Screening for Bowel Cancer’ and gave it a resounding thumbs up!

“It is very good, I did not know about this cancer” – Ying Kang

“The activities and video are easy to understand” – Fatemeh and Leila

“It has good information. Very helpful” – Pooja Singh
